The semi-automatic taping machines are characterized by the fact that the adjustments (height and width) are made manually by means of a handwheel.
These taping machines are therefore used when batches of boxes all of the same size have to be taped and when the operator fills the boxes in the immediate vicinity.

The automatic self-sizing taping machines are used instead when boxes of different sizes could pass through the line.
Being self-sizing, they adapt to different box sizes.

All the taping machines listed above require an operator to close the upper flaps of the cardboard box beforehand during filling.
Alternatively, there are self-dimensioning taping machines with upper flap closers, which then automatically close the box before taping it.
All taping machines use transparent, white, brown or printed adhesive tape with a length of 660 meters and a width of 50 mm or 75 mm.
An ink jet marker can also be installed on the taping machine to mark the lot and contents on the cardboard boxes on one side.
Upstream of the taping machine, various accessories can be installed that facilitate the operator’s work and the filling of the box; such as a fixed box stop table, a semi-automatic box former or a fully automatic box former combined with a taping base.

After the taping machine, depending on the type of line, an extensible unloading roller conveyor can be installed for accumulating the boxes or a motorized roller conveyor that transports the boxes to the palletization area.
Depending on the size of the box, the hourly production and the type of line, it is therefore necessary to choose the right taping machine, the right belt and the right accessories, in order not to create a “bottleneck” and block production or machine downtime.
